Last week, ABC abruptly cancelled Roseanne Barr’s eponymous sitcom after she posted an offensive tweet about Barack Obama’s former advisor Valerie Jarrett. Now, Barr is getting revenge on ABC in a huge way.

TMZ reported that after cancelling the show, ABC immediately went about trying to launch a spinoff of the highly rated sitcom that would focus on the character of Darlene, who was played by Sara Gilbert. ABC executives immediately went into talks with Gilbert, who was one of the first cast members to throw Barr under the bus, in the hopes of bringing the show back.

However, ABC has just hit a major snag with their planned spinoff in that ownership is a major issue here. Barr created the show and it’s characters, and she still has a financial stake in it. Sources say that Barr could put her foot down and say that there will be no reboot unless she gets a piece of the pie, and ABC is desperate to avoid the lawsuit that would undoubtedly ensue if they were to try and get around this.

If Barr were to profit off of the revamped version of the show, it would defeat the original purpose of cancelling “Roseanne” in the first place. Barr is getting revenge in the fact that she has made it so that ABC executives’ hands are effectively tied here, and they have no idea what to do!

This comes after it was revealed that because Barr was making around $250,000 per episode, she is going to lose over $3 million with the second season being cancelled. A source said that though ABC will be paying her costars Gilbert, John Goodman, and Laurie Metcalf for 10 of the 13 unfilmed episodes, they are using a legal loophole to get out of paying Barr.

“Roseanne’s contract was canceled because she brought the show and the network into disrepute so network bosses aren’t going to want to pay her but they’re more than happy to pay the rest of the cast,” the source said. “Even Roseanne’s comments on Twitter in recent days have the legal team adamant that she has broken the moral obligations of her contract.”
