Buckingham Palace has just made an announcement about Prince Philip that has people all over the globe rejoicing.
The U.K. Express reported that Philip has finally left the hospital after spending eleven days there following hip replacement surgery.
“His Royal Highness would like to convey his appreciation for the messages of good wishes he has received,” the palace said in a statement.
Philip, who turns 97 in June, had begun experiencing pain in his hip one month before the operation. He has undoubtedly already begun rehabilitation and will have a few more weeks of this to undergo before he is completely back to normal again.
Though the specific reason for the surgery has not been revealed, consultant orthopaedic surgeon Scarlett McNally explained that the most common reason behind the surgery is osteoarthritis.
“There is a multi-disciplinary team involved in post-operative care, including nurses, physiotherapists and surgeons,” she said. “Every individual has different needs and recovers in different ways but the majority of patients can get back to their chosen lifestyle a few weeks after surgery, free from pain and with improved mobility.”
Philip stayed in the hospital for an unusually long time after this surgery, which caused prayers to pour in for him as many feared he was suffering complications from it. His release his calmed these fears, as it seems he is on the mend again.
At Philip’s advanced age, there is no such thing as routine surgery, and even something like a hip replacement could have gone very wrong. We thank God that he made it through this surgery and is now back with his family where he belongs.
