This thug learned the hard way that he’d picked the wrong house to break into…

Maria Ortero, 55, was horrified on Monday when she was awakened at around 1:30 am by the sounds of a thug breaking into her Pinecrest, Florida home. Unfortunately for the thug, however, he had no idea Ortero is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agent.

Breitbart reported that Ortero was sleeping when “28-year-old Robert Young III smashed in a glass sliding door.” Wasting no time, Ortero grabbed her gun and “fired several shots” at Young, killing him on the scene. The CBP issued a statement confirming that Ortero used her government-issued sidearm, a “.40 caliber Smith & Wesson.”

Though Ortero’s neighbors were surprised about the incident, they admitted that they had worried in the past that their neighborhood would be targeted.

“(I was) a bit surprised, a bit shocked, but you know, it’s a very quiet neighborhood around here,” one neighbor said. “Well, it is Miami, so it can happen, but not in this neighborhood. This tends to happen in other neighborhoods. But this area has scared me always a bit because we’re so close to U.S. 1, so it’s a quick getaway.”

Ortero has worked in law enforcement for 25 years and has been placed on administrative leave while this incident is investigated. We can only hope that she is allowed to return to work soon, as it is clear she acted completely in the right!

Meanwhile, Young had a lengthy criminal history including grand theft, battery, and carrying a concealed weapon.
